Linda Vista is Spanish for "beautiful view." This strategically
located area is home to University of San Diego, which tops one of
the area's tallest hills. Offering residents both city and ocean views,
the Linda Vista neighborhood overlooks Mission Bay, and is bordered
by the Pacific Ocean on the west, Mission Valley on the south, and
Tecolote Canyon on the northwest.
With roots as an olive grove, Linda Vista exploded to life in 1940 as
part of a government project to house aircraft workers who were pouring
into San Diego County to build the aircraft needed for WWII. In
just three months, the area grew to 3,000 homes, which were built so
quickly that no infrastructure was in place to support the residents.
Many of the original houses remain today; however, the area has plentiful
infrastructure now and is experience both grown and revitalization. |
